FAQ

  • Fat Con 2026 is January 16-18 at the Embassy Suites by Hilton Seattle Downtown Pioneer Square.

  • Any person of any size, any race, any gender, any sexual orientation or expression, any capability is welcome at Fat Con! We love our straight-sized allies—your support is very important to our mission. Please keep in mind that Fat Con is a space centered around fat bodies and fat lives: this may mean that people with straight-sized bodies could feel discomfort. This discomfort is likely caused by our culture centering thinness and not from any intolerance in the fat community. All are unconditionally welcome!

The only limitation on attendance is age: Fat Con is a 21 and older event due to some subject matter of our panels, activities, and goods sold by some of our vendors. We understand how important it is to share and teach Fat Joy with young people, so the Fat Con planning team is considering ways to expand Fat Con for a younger audience.

  • If you have a story, you can run a panel at Fat Con! It’s important to our community to hear from many different voices and experiences. Even if you’ve never run a panel at a convention before, there’s a few things you can do to get ready to apply and run your panel:

    • Consider your story. What theme stands out to you? What’s the most important learning you want the audience to leave with? What action do you want your audience to take?

    • You’re not alone! Do you have any friends who have experience with the same theme? Can you put out a call to the fat community for anyone with similar stories? More voices give your audience more connection.

    • Outline and practice! Once you have people for your panel and your topic, create an outline of what you want talk about and in what order. Maybe you know you get nervous and writing down specific things you want to say would help.

Whatever works best for you, practice saying it out loud (pets make great practice audiences). Get your panel partners together on Zoom to practice together.
